Surlyn Film Aluminum Sheet — Processing & Usage Instructions
Correct processing practices are critical to preserving the integrity of the Surlyn film and achieving the best final product quality. Please follow the guidelines below.
① Incoming Inspection
Upon unpacking, inspect the Surlyn film surface for integrity. Verify batch labels against order specifications and record coil numbers for quality traceability.
② Slitting / Uncoiling
Use circular slitters or laser cutting to avoid burrs that could damage film edges. For high-speed cutting, locally lift the film before processing and apply protective tape to cut edges.
③ Stamping / Bending
Dies must be polished; radius R ≥ 1.5× sheet thickness. Bending inner radius ≥ 2T to prevent film cracking at the bend zone. Recommended stamping speed: ≤20 strokes/min.
④ Cleaning
Wipe with a neutral cleaner and soft cloth. Do not use strong acids, alkalis, or abrasive cleaners, as these will damage the Surlyn film surface. It is recommended to keep the film in place until installation is complete.
⑤ Film Removal
The Surlyn film is the final permanent protective layer — no secondary peeling is required. If a temporary surface liner was applied, remove it at 45° slowly after project completion to avoid pulling the substrate.
⑥ Storage & Handling
Store at 5–40°C, relative humidity ≤80%, away from acidic/alkaline gases. Stack no more than 5 layers with wooden separators. Sea shipments require moisture-proof treatment.

What is the difference between Surlyn film aluminum and regular PE-protected aluminum sheet?
Surlyn is a DuPont ionomer film — it offers higher hardness (≥2H), better chemical resistance, and superior clarity compared to ordinary PE film. Critically, Surlyn film is not a temporary protective layer: it is a permanent functional surface coating that stays on the product in use — no peeling required. It also provides aesthetics and protection simultaneously, and operates over a much wider temperature range (-40°C to +150°C).
Can Surlyn film aluminum sheet be deep drawn? Will the film delaminate or peel?
Yes — deep drawing is fully supported. MESCO STEEL's Surlyn film aluminum uses a proprietary thermal lamination process, achieving film-to-metal peel strength ≥10 N/cm. With proper die radius design (recommended ≥1.5T) and controlled stamping speed, delamination or peeling will not occur during deep drawing or stretching. We can provide process adjustment guidance tailored to your tooling parameters.
What is the minimum order quantity? Are small-batch custom orders accepted?
Standard specifications: MOQ is 5 MT, with stock items available for smaller quantities. Custom specifications (special thickness/width/color): MOQ is 1 MT. For first-time material qualification, we offer sample cards or small-format samples (freight collect) so you can complete product validation quickly before placing a formal order.
What is the lead time? Is expedited production available?
Standard specification items are held in stock and can typically be arranged for dispatch within 3–5 working days. Custom specification lead time is approximately 15 working days. For urgent requirements, please communicate with the sales team to discuss priority scheduling — we will do our best to accommodate expedited production.
Do you provide Mill Test Certificates (MTC) and third-party inspection reports?
Yes. Every batch ships with an MTC conforming to EN10204 3.1 standard, covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface treatment parameters. If third-party inspection reports from SGS, BV, Intertek, or similar agencies are required, please specify in advance — fees are confirmed by mutual agreement.
Can Surlyn film aluminum be used for food contact or medical packaging?
Yes. We supply food-grade Surlyn film aluminum sheet compliant with FDA 21 CFR food contact safety regulations, as well as RoHS and REACH requirements — free from heavy metals and harmful plasticizers.
